Over the weekend and yesterday I have started receiving my hospital bills from my kidney stones. They breakdown as:
- Hospital (visit #1) = $524.63
- X-ray’s (visit #1) = $85.50
- X-ray’s (6 weeks later visit #2) = $532.00
#3 doesn’t show where insurance paid anything so I have to call them and the insurance company. I don’t think it has had time to go through yet, but they shouldn’t send me a bill until they get paid by the insurance company…just my opinion.
Total so far is $1142.13, but #3 will probably get lower.
I joined yet another site last night. marketocracy.com is a site where you can practice managing a mutual fund so I gave it a shot and spent a million dollars. We’ll see how that goes I guess.

When I got my job I had to go through the process of getting insurance. This was my first time on my own choosing my deductible and I chose the highest, which was $1,000 so I would have just the minimum taken from each paycheck. I was thinking “Hey I’ve only been to the hospital twice in 25 years… I should choose the highest deductible”… Well I got burnt! I ended up going to the hospital with kidney stones twice so far this year with several x-rays done. I may have to change my deductible next year.
So far I think I will owe about $1,300 from my first visit and my second visit hasn’t even started processing yet. I still may have surgery in the coming future, which I will pay 20% I think. I’m thankful I have insurance though.
Final thought…It’s easy to forget about an emergency fund until you actually have an emergency. I didn’t forget about one, but I just didn’t think I would actually need it so soon.
“Expect the unexpected!”
