How can GM become profitable again?

I saw in the headlines today that GM is asking for $10 BILLION in government aid to merge with Chrysler. Seems like this country isGM Logo getting more socialistic everyday. It’s not the governments place to fund acquisitions or to bail out companies because they cannot compete with the world.

I know people come back with reason’s like “If we let the company fail then 350,000 people lose their jobs”. Well let the economy run it’s cycle. If GM wants to compete they need to work things out on their own.

A start would be not negotiating with unions. If GM fails then in my own opinion I think it is the unions fault for making it hard for GM to operate profitably. Same for the airline industry also. GM needs to get away from unions and not be scared of them. There are plenty of people that needs a job and will work for half or less than what GM is paying line workers. I think GM should just not negotiate with unions. They may go through a short time with no workers because of workers going on strike, but should start hiring people in the plant that actually want a job and will be thankful for it. It’s about supply and demand and there is a pretty big supply of people needing jobs. They need to slash jobs anyway this would be a perfect way. What’s the deal with paying people to quit?!?

I’m not exactly sure what a line workers makes, but they should be thankful for the job they have and the income they make instead of picketing on the sidewalk wanting just a little bit more. I have heard a very broad range for line workers being anywhere from $54,000 a year to $74,000 a year. You add in over time and benefits it could easily be over $100,000 a year. I only make $10.79 an hour working about 38 hours a week. Comes out to about $22,500 a year. I work in a bank and glad I have a job.

That is just my take on how GM can become profitable.
