Hospital bills…
September 18, 07 by StealthyWhen I got my job I had to go through the process of getting insurance. This was my first time on my own choosing my deductible and I chose the highest, which was $1,000 so I would have just the minimum taken from each paycheck. I was thinking “Hey I’ve only been to the hospital twice in 25 years… I should choose the highest deductible”… Well I got burnt! I ended up going to the hospital with kidney stones twice so far this year with several x-rays done. I may have to change my deductible next year.
So far I think I will owe about $1,300 from my first visit and my second visit hasn’t even started processing yet. I still may have surgery in the coming future, which I will pay 20% I think. I’m thankful I have insurance though.
Final thought…It’s easy to forget about an emergency fund until you actually have an emergency. I didn’t forget about one, but I just didn’t think I would actually need it so soon.
“Expect the unexpected!”

I have excellent medical insurance…but it’s just a fluke. We get to choose our coverage, and I was going to choose the one that deducts the smallest amount from my paycheck…except I made a mistake! However, I’m so thankful for being covered that I will make sure I’m well covered in the future too.

I’m sorry about the bills Stealthy. These things are tough, but you’ll bounce back. Anyone as dedicated to personal finance as you will be all set in the long run.

I’ve been told that I can pay $100 or whatever I can afford to the Dr’s and most won’t charge interest. I was told by my mom and several other people.
I’ve never had a hospital bill before… Does anyone know if this is true?
